It is very interesting that the calendar we use is divided by BC or B.C. and AD or A.D., meaning “Before Christ” and “Anno Domini” or “After Christ.” History is divided by this factor. It is quite interesting that the world gives so little attention to the very person who divides history. You would think the world would want to know more about this person who divides history. The death of Christ is without doubt the most significant factor in world history. Jesus Christ divided history and someday he will divide the world population into those who believe and those who do not. He expressed it this way in Luke 12:51: Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, No; but rather division:
Here are some other examples of a great division when Christ judges the populations of the world in the future: Matthew 25:31: When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
Matthew 25:32: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats:Matthew 25:33: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.Matthew 25:34: Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:Matthew 25:41: Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:This judgment event is known as the Sheep and Goat Judgment. I really believe it is not too far into the future from where we are right now. What side will you be on if it were today?
Christ promised to send the Holy Spirit to all of his followers when he instructed them in the famous Upper Room teaching. This promise was fulfilled 50 days after Passover on a special Jewish celebration time known as Pentecost. Little did they know that this Passover was going to be different than any other Passover celebrated in their Jewish history. The lamb sacrificed at this Passover was going to be the “Lamb” that John the Baptist pointed to three years earlier when he said, “Behold the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world.” Jesus Christ became the Passover Lamb that takes away the sins of the world for those who would believe on Him. So, 50 days after Passover came the celebration of Pentecost. During this 50 day period Christ rose from the dead and appeared here and there in the country of Palestine to prove to skeptics that he had indeed risen from the dead. He made three big promises before he was murdered or crucified: He was going to rise from the dead, He was going to send the Holy Spirit and he was going to return again. He has fulfilled the first two promises and only one is left—His return. For two thousand years believers all over the world have waited for his return. On His return He will bring total restoration to this troubled world with a perfect government and the rule of law and order.
The next big division of the population of the Jewish world was on the 50th day which was Pentecost, which means fiftieth day. This fiftieth day was doing to be very different from all the others of previous history because God was going to send the Holy Spirit to carry out the plan that the Jesus Christ implemented and started. When the Holy Spirit came on this big feast day, the total population in Jerusalem could have been over 1 million people, including 100,000 to 300,000 visitors from all over the Middle East and the Roman Empire. It was on this great Jewish occasion that God planned to send the Holy Spirit to convert thousands of Jewish people to Christianity and empower his church for the next 2000 years. This time is known in the Bible as the “Times of the Gentiles,” which we are still living in at the present time. When the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost, Peter the preacher, filled and empowered by the Holy Spirit, preached a message explaining to everyone that the promise of the Spirit’s coming was now fulfilled. The result was 3000 people in one day became believers in Christ. God was making another great division: believers divided from nonbelievers, which is still going on all over the world to this day. Which side are you on?
The fact of the matter is, there would be no church today if there were no Holy Spirit. There might be religious denominations, religions of various kinds but no New Testament biblical church with the power of the Holy Spirit working in and through the populations of the world. The churches of historic significance have over and over again through history become corrupted, ineffective political social clubs filled with hypocrisy and corruption. But again and again God has sent the Holy Spirit to awaken, refresh and empower his church.
I want this to happen in Prince Albert. It has not happened to date but if and when it does, Prince Albert will become a different place. It will not be because of anything we do other than in full cooperation with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has to be the one in control and, when He is at the head, great things will happen. When the Holy Spirit has greatly invaded the church the communities have been greatly affected for good. Great good always comes when the Holy Spirit invades a community. Crime drops, addictions greatly decrease, common-law and marital infidelity decrease and hundreds of people come to believe in Christ for salvation and a new way of life. Most in the population become overwhelmed with a desire to do right not wrong. May every reader make the first steps. Turn to God, get a Bible and read it, put God first in the priorities of everyday life, confess all known sin and get your path pointed again into the way of the abundant life Christ promised us.
God has made an offer and the offer of his Son, Jesus Christ, has divided the world for 2000 years. I used to be on the wrong side, but in 1977 I accepted His offer, His Son as my Saviour. The book of Colossians describes what happens when a person becomes a born-again Christian: Colossians 1:13,14: Who has delivered us from the power of darkness, and has translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins. This is the miracle that takes place when a person believes.
I was then moved from the wrong side to the God side described above as translated. It is that simple. Today you are on one side or the other, the side of darkness or the side of the Kingdom of His Son. If you are on the wrong side you are on the path of coming big trouble. But it does not have to be that way. He has made a way out. I urge you to strongly consider the option God has offered us to get on the right side with his Son.
