Lessons from Israel (Part 3)

Israel is a country that has been the most contested and disputed nation and piece of real estate in the world. Today, as I write this article, Israel is in another war with rockets raining down on them from the Palestinians. These weapons being fired by Hamas were sent to them from Iran.   Israel’s long history begins with one man—Abraham. Abraham is claimed as the father of three major religions in the world: Judaism or the nation of Israel, the Arabic religions of Islam in their different forms, and the Christian religion.  These religions all find their roots in Abraham. When I discovered this many years ago, I was amazed.  It has been said that religion causes so much trouble in the world, that it is the biggest cause of wars and strife. There’s definitely some truth to that statement.  However, the truthful answer to that is Jesus Christ is known as the Prince of Peace and the Prince of Life. Wars and strife do not come from anything other than religion and power, not from the Prince of Peace. Wherever true Christianity exists there is peace and life between factions and religions.

The intense hatred between Islam and the Jewish religion is based on belief on an inheritance connected to Abraham.  Both the Jews and the Islamic religions believe they are the true heirs to Abraham. The Jews trace their lineage back to a son of Abraham named Isaac. The Islamic religions trace their lineage back to another son named Ishmael, considered the revered son of Islam.  Islam claims that the Jews are not really true descendants of Abraham so they do not have the right to exist.  Islam tries to do everything possible to make sure they do not exist.  One often hears statements from Islamic leaders like “Israel, the Jews, will be pushed into the sea” and “they will no longer exist when we are done with them.”  However, like the last two weeks of rocket attacks and the several wars against them over the last 70 years since becoming a nation, Israel always win against unbelievable and seemingly impossible odds.  This time around, Israel has warded off over 3000 rockets with their Iron Dome defence system that has taken out 90% of the rockets.  They are developing another laser defence system that will even be more lethal and effective than the Iron Dome system.  Israel has one of the most effective and advanced military operations in the world. This is amazing for a country that was only begun in 1948. The fact is that there is something more powerful than the Iron Dome covering Israel. That is the mighty hand of Almighty God.  However, the big stumbling block to Israel is they do not realize that the God of Israel is Jesus Christ.  Islam also does not realize that God had a plan that started with Abraham to bless the world through his seed or descendant Jesus Christ. God has blessed the world through his Son who descended from Abraham’s son Isaac, not Ishmael.

God still has a plan for Israel as a nation and, if you are a born-again Christian who has had your eyes opened to spiritual truths about Israel, you will see God is still dealing with Israel and will continue this involvement into the ages to come.  God gave a timetable for his dealing with Israel to the prophet Daniel in 8:25 and 9:25-27.  The plan included two princes: One prince would be the Prince of princes and the other would be the prince of evil.  These religions have been in conflict through the millenniums of history. This conflict is really about who is the rightful heir of Abraham’s promise to the world.  In Genesis 12:7 we read of God appearing to Abraham and saying: “Unto thy seed will I give this land; and there built he [Abraham] an altar unto the Lord who appeared unto him.” That land promise was to be fulfilled in Isaac, not Ishmael. God also made a border to the land in those promises: “In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abraham saying, unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river the river Euphrates” (Genesis 15:18).  “…I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude” (Genesis 16:10). God did make promises to the mother of Ishmael but they were different promises.

We see the fulfillment of these seed promises in the New Testament.  Acts 13:23: “Of this man’s seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus.” Romans 9:7: “Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.”  Here God is confirming that the seed promises to Abraham were fulfilled in the son Isaac, not Ishmael.  There is more in the book of Romans on the fulfillment of the seed promise through Abraham, fulfilled through Isaac and then through Jesus Christ who is the Saviour of the world.  In other scriptures we read: “Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He says not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to your seed, which is Christ” (Galatians 3:16).  “And if you be Christ’s, then are you Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:29).  “Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel”  (2 Timothy 2:8).  The seed of David means that Jesus Christ came through Israel.  Hebrews 2:16 “…but he took on him the seed of Abraham.”  These verses all prove that Jesus Christ was the fulfillment of the seed promise to Abraham through Isaac his son.  Galatians 3:8: “And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.” 3:9:“So then they which be of faith are bless with faithful Abraham.” This seed promise blessing was through Abraham, then through Isaac through the nation of Israel all the way to Jesus Christ, and now we are blessed by believing on Christ for salvation. This promise to all the nations is fulfilled in Christ and available to you and me.  We can get in on the blessings God made to Israel by believing on the Messiah they rejected.

The gospel message that Jesus Christ came into this world, died on the cross of Calvary, then rose again and was preached on in the world is the message for the nations of the world.  My question to you is: Have you repented of your sin and believed so this promised blessing to the world can become yours?  When you do that, you become a member in the promise made to Israel through Jesus Christ. He who is the Prince of Life and the Prince of Peace can then become your personal Saviour.  Also, this is how he can become a Saviour to the Islamic nations and to the Jewish nation.

We would like to help you learn how to do that by tuning into our Live Stream services: You can also get used to attending church on Sunday by attending our Live Stream services each Sunday at 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on our web site at www.pabaptist.ca or call 306-961-9866.  We have a Christian Growth Class on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m.  You can join by Zoom please call or email for the code.

God bless you all until next week. Remember, God can change everything but it starts with you deciding and believing!  Nothing will change until you do but great things will happen for you when you do!
