When the world seems upside down what do we do? Is there any way we can get our country turned around and right-side up? It boggles my mind with what is coming out of politicians and leaders across our country and the world these days. It seems the world has gone totally mad and is void of any common sense. Here in Saskatchewan, we are enjoying the summer holidays and some sense of normality that we lost over the last 18 months and we do not want to hear any more bad news. I am trying to keep on top of what is going on in the world and in particular with the Delta variant that is gaining momentum across the world. What I see does not look encouraging. I think we are headed for another rough winter. Let’s pray this variant is headed off from coming into Canada. My encouragement is for everyone to take vitamin D, which is proven to help build immunity. With the Covid drama unfolding, one thing I am convinced of is that much of what we are hearing from the media is not truth. One person told me once that a half-truth is a lie. In my opinion, the media is good at spinning half-truths. Truth is difficult to discern with respect to all the issues we are bombarded with today, whether it is lockdowns, mandates or bills pushed through parliament that will forever change the way Canadians live.
First, I want to say we are blessed to live in Saskatchewan during this time. All over the world there are so many places that are so much worse off than us. I talked to a man in Columbia this week who said they are in total lockdown and the Delta variant is raging through the population. We have the privilege to live in a province with a low population and lots of outside space to enjoy. Much of the world does not have the luxury of big open skies and a small population base, a great advantage during a pandemic. The second thing we have so far is a Bible to give us hope and direction and it is important that we take time to read it. The day is coming when it will probably be not allowed to meet in church or openly profess Christianity.
It was a strange coincidence this morning that I got a call from a lady in Romania. She has watched and connected to us lately through our Live Stream church services, the content of which she really appreciates. Speaking very good English, this Christian lady said she is fearing the vaccine mandates coming upon the Romanian population. She is a well-informed and educated Romanian who has done her homework on the Covid plan-demic affecting every nation on earth. “Now,” she said, “they even want to vaccinate our children and children do not even get sick.” She wanted to know what are we doing here. I told her that it appears the same agenda is being pushed here. It seems all of our politicians are blind leaders of the blind. Our Lord addressed that crowd when he was here on earth. And Jesus said, “For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.” And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, “Are we blind also?” Jesus said unto them, “If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, ‘We see;’ therefore your sin remains” (John 9:39-41).
Jesus was simply saying that if you have the truth presented to you and reject it then you are the same as a blind person. The blindness he is referring to here is not physical blindness with physical eyes but spiritual blindness with spiritual eyes. Our world today is blind to spiritual truth because they have rejected it. You will never understand spiritual truth without spiritual eyes to understand it. Blind people can be led and deceived very easily because they are totally dependent on their blind guides to lead them. If you are seeking truth, check out Sermonaudio.com which is a good source of biblical resource teaching. Love worth finding is another good resource to seek out biblical truth that will help get your personal and spiritual world right side up.
I want to encourage all of you that when the world seems upside down, we have only one real reliable source of truth to get things back on the right side and going in the right direction again. That source is the Bible which is the manual God gave the world to help us discern the right direction to follow for ourselves, our families and our churches. It is the manual our governments and our justice systems followed in the past, which proved to be so very beneficial. When we followed tried and proven biblical principles our countries did much better. At that same time period, our grandfathers and grandmothers were attending church every Sunday. They had their tests and trials but the citizens of our free countries had faith and established our institutions accordingly. Following generations left the church and traditions of our grandfathers thinking they were out of touch with reality and not applicable to our generation but we are now reaping the consequences. Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
I fear that we trusted the institutions that were created and not the God of our founding institutions. Now our institutions, government being one of them are failing us and we are asking, “What is going on?” It is because we have left God and the principles that helped us establish our schools, universities, hospitals, legal and financial institutions. McMaster University at its founding was a Baptist college. It was created to train young people in the arts and sciences with a faith-based foundation to all of its curriculum and courses to assure parents that when their children attended there, they would not have their faith compromised. It was named McMaster because at the founding of it Mr. McMaster who was the president of Canadian Imperial Bank donated one million dollars to start the institution. As a result, Christian families from across Canada sent their children there to obtain a quality faith-based education. That is not the case in that university or any other today. We need to realize that our universities in Canada are probably one of the biggest reasons many students who have come from Christian families have had their faith destroyed with atheistic and agnostic professors mocking and ridiculing the Christian faith. The Apostle Paul warns us: Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ (Colossians 2:8). McMaster University today is probably one of the most liberal and left-leaning universities in Canada. It abandoned its founding principles and now is sowing the seeds of liberalism, socialism and secular humanism in the hearts and minds of students and our country continues in a moral spiral to destruction.
There was a story of the university professor who was ridiculing the Christian faith with comments that there is no proof there is a God. He said that, scientifically, there is no proof of God. A brave student finally got tired of his attacks against Christianity and responded. He said, “Sir, do you have a brain? Sir, we have no evidence of your brain. We have never seen your brain and there is no scientific evidence you have a brain; therefore, you must not have a brain.” The class laughed as the student had made his point.
The Bible puts it this way in Romans 1:22: Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools. The worldly wise have always mocked the Bible and faith but one day it will be revealed they were the fools and the people with faith in the tried and proven principles of the Word of God were the winners. The end of life will reveal the wise man and the fool. I told a man today that five minutes after we die everyone becomes a believer. The tragic truth is that at death there is no second chance for the ones who have made the wrong choice. Now is the time to make that decision, to believe the Bible and to follow its teachings.
How do we get our world right side up when it is upside down? The only way is for one person at a time getting things turned back the right way – and it starts with you. It cannot be done through politics alone. In fact, politics without a grass roots movement of people getting back to Biblical basics will never work for Canada. Biblical Christianity, that used to be foundational with everything in our country, needs to be revived. Every institution in the country needs to get back to the biblical principles they left. In short, we need to purge out the evil and embrace the good and exalt the glory of God again in private dwellings, churches and government establishments. Failing to do this, judgment will continue to fall on our nation. I truly believe that the Covid pandemic is the beginning of judgments to fall for seeking after pleasure, money and things rather than after God and His Word. If we do not repent and return to God our countries are doomed to destruction. Biblical Christianity is the only thing that will save us in this late hour and get our upside-down world turned right side up. 2 Chronicles 7:14 from the Old Testament points the way for this to happen: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and heal their land.
