When I was a young man working on my first away from home farm job in B.C. I remember clearly when my boss and I were greasing the silage chopper that he gave me a lesson on common sense. I remember that he said the most important lessons you will learn in life will be common sense lessons. He said the most important principle you will learn growing up and working on the farm is the principle of “common sense”. He said common sense will take you farther than any education or any university degree. Education is good but only if it is mixed with common sense. Then he said you will learn about common sense right here on the farm.
The Merriam Webster dictionary definition of common sense: “prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the situation or facts. Lit: ability to reach intelligent conclusions. Sense; implies a reliable ability to judge and decide with soundness, prudence and intelligence.” In order to accomplish this, people need to think through facts and evidence like a judge would before declaring a sentence on the accused after a long trial where evidence is presented by the defence and prosecution attorneys.
In my opinion with regards to our present Covid pandemic it seems very obvious to me that we have leaders who are not thinking or using any common sense. They are simply functioning along a pre-planned narrative and they are not thinking through where we are actually going to end up if we keep on this path. They all think they are protecting their career and their future but actually they are going to lose it all. I believe we have a short time now to stand now and fight against the greatest evil that has ascended upon the human population or become slaves to a totally totalitarian system of world governance. Freedoms as we have known them are fleeing before us and if this is not deterred our children and grandchildren will live in a totally different Canada where freedom will no longer be known. The greater crisis we are all experiencing is not Covid but the coercion and control exercised upon the free countries of the world to totally strip each free country of freedom of choice, freedom of the press, freedom of religion and freedom of conscience that our constitutions were designed to provide and protect. It seems they mean nothing now because of the so-called emergency that could be ended in months if our leaders would unshackle our doctors and allow them to be doctors and allow Ivermectin and other early treatment drugs. These are facts that are proven in country after country around the world who are using them.
When the American religious pilgrims fled England for America it was because they wanted religious and personal freedom from the tyrannical and oppressive governments of Europe--beginning with England. It started a flood of people fleeing to a new land with a burning passion in their heart to have a new beginning in a new land with freedom to pursue life, liberty and happiness for every one of its citizens. It was on November 25, 1621, that the Plymouth Colonists and the Wampanoag and other native people celebrated what is known as the first Thanksgiving in America. It is still celebrated on the same date today. Their celebration was to give thanks to God which was led by their pastor for a season of fasting, then feasting. The humble group of settlers had already lost one half the populations after they landed on the shore the year before. The winter had decimated them but they got through it. It was actually a native man who helped them survive in the new life style of surviving off the land. That first Thanksgiving of a few people worshipping God and thanking him for his goodness to them was actually the seeds of a new birth of a new nation that became the largest most powerful nation on the face of the earth in a very short time. Our last two great world wars and numerous wars since have proved that the USA was the power to be reckoned with around the world. They have held at bay evil tyrants and terror groups for decades but I fear it all about to end if there is not a major wake up soon.
The USA, in order to become a nation, did not realize that they were going to have to fight a war against the largest military in the world, which was Britain at the time. The British claimed the new land for themselves and as it grew in population, they wanted to tax it and control it like they did Britain. The new America was really much divided on this matter. They did not want to separate except they wanted a guarantee of certain rights and freedoms. Great Britain did not want to accommodate these requests. Eventually a war broke out with a much-divided American population over those who wanted to stay loyal to the British and those who wanted to be free from British control. The war that ensued is known as the Revolutionary War of 1775. It seemed the war was necessary to actually forge a nation where these freedoms and liberties were enshrined into a constitution and charter guaranteeing just laws and basic freedoms for all. In particular the freedoms of religion, freedoms to bear arms and freedom of speech. There is a presently a dark evil force trying very hard to destroy these freedoms and liberties that have made our countries like Canada and the USA, both nations the envy of the world. It is obvious most Americans and Canadians do not realize or appreciate what we have and are basically going to lie down and let it happen. The Americans paid a great price for their freedom and so have Canadians by engaging in two world wars and many spilling their blood on foreign soils so that we did not need to spill any on our own—but that is probably going to soon change.
During the Revolutionary War, the odds were very much against the Americans, thought to be quickly squashed by the British. However, history teaches us that that did not happen. The American revolutionaries prevailed over a long 8-year war and finally the British government agreed to allow the 13 American areas to become independent. Articles of a Treaty of Paris were signed in September 1783. One of the catalysts of the war was a writer named Thomas Paine. He wrote a pamphlet called “Common Sense”. George Washington claimed that the article had a great impact among his soldiers and credits winning several major battles because the principles of the pamphlet motivated his soldiers to victory. I want to give some quotes from that article. I do this because I see our country quickly sliding into an abyss of stupidity. People have stopped thinking. It has been said that with Covid the first thing you lose is a sense of taste, then sense of smell. It is very obvious the last thing that is lost is common sense. Our leaders in this great nation have totally lost their ability to think. They are all afraid even though they know something is very wrong with what is coming out every week. It is obvious that the nations that are the most vaccinated, like Israel, are having the worst outbreaks of Covid since the pandemic started. We are seeing countries like certain provinces in India like Uttar Pradesh and Egypt with very low Covid rates and deaths at zero because they are using a totally different approach to treating Covid. Their citizens are functioning as normal, their hospitals are empty and their Covid deaths rates are virtually zero. Where is the common sense? Remember, The Merriam Webster dictionary definition of common sense: “prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the situation or facts.” Our leaders are not doing this. One leader was challenged about this and he said, “My hands are tied.” Great leadership in difficult times rise up because they count the cost realizing it could be political suicide but they do it anyway because they know it is best and needed as best for the people. They become leaders at a critical time of need in history and history recognizes them as such. We desperately need such a person in Canada now.
One quote Thomas Pain wrote in his booklet “Common Sense” I will leave you with in closing: The boldness to do wrong at first, changes afterwards into cowardly craft, and at last into fear it is from a strange mixture of tyranny and cowardice that exclusions have been set up and continued. The Representatives in England appear now to act as if they were afraid to do right, even in part, lest it should awaken the nation to a sense of all the wrongs it has endured. This case serves to show that the same conduct that best constitutes the safety of an individual, namely, a strict adherence to principle, constitutes also the safety of a government, and that without it safety is but an empty name.
