Confidence And Courage In The Midst Of The Storm Part 2

The book of Acts, chapter 27 gives an account of a brutal shipwreck.  The ship was on its way to Rome with 276 people on board in about A.D.59.   Rome was the epicentre of world military and economic power.  The Bible prophecies indicate that at the end of this age we will witness the revival of the Roman empire where the world powers will be centered back in Rome.  Our world is heading in that direction. The global elites of the world think the answer is centralized global control and there has been an aggressive agenda over the last few decades to steer our world in that direction.  There have been frequent meetings in Davos, Switzerland, with the most powerful and elite politicians and power brokers in the world, to plot the agenda of global control, what they think is going to be best for the world.  They are using pandemics, chaos and wars, hoping that people will gladly accept and submit to their solutions.  The only thing hindering this agenda is truth because most of what is propelling their agenda forward are lies, deception and slanted narratives in the media.  The same people who sit in Davos are the same people who own and control the major media outlets around the world.  They all spin the same narratives and anything that is contrary to what they spin they do not report or they spin the story in such a way that truth is discredited.  If you want more accurate news go to news platforms like “Rebel News” or Jordan Peterson in Canada and Fox News in the USA.  There is also the “Daily Wire.” You also have to be careful with some of these web-based news outlets too. The ones I mentioned are not without faults and biases too but they usually have a more truthful perspective on what is going on.  Now, if you want good news, not bad news, go the Bible.  The word Gospel is actually “good news.”

The second part of this article series is about a shipwreck, told about at the end of the book of Acts.  I used to wonder why God allowed an entire long chapter at the end of a book teaching about the church to tell about a shipwreck in such detail. He could have just said there was a shipwreck and everyone survived.  However, there is nothing written in the Bible that does not have an important message and purpose.  It dawned on me one day that the reason God put this chapter of a shipwreck at the end of the book on the church is because that is how the church age is going to end.  The world is going to come to a total devastating shipwreck in the midst of a horrible global storm.  Acts 27:14: But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind called Euroclydon.

The name Euroclydon indicates it was fierce and had typhoon strength winds from the northeast.  It was a storm of misery and it lasted for a long time.  However, all the passengers on board the ship were spared from perishing because they listened to the preacher on board the ship named Paul the Apostle, who had received a message from God.  They did not listen to his instructions the first time and ended up regretting it but they learned their lesson. The second time they decided to listen to him because everything he told them the first time happened.

This shipwreck story can be applied exactly to where we are in the world today. We are on a journey back to Rome control.  Most people on board do not and will not listen to anything biblical as a solution.  They will rather listen to the media and get all of their direction and instruction from there.  They are going to be very disappointed but hopefully will have time to receive instructions from the Word of God, delivered by men of God before they crash on the rocks.  There are good preachers who are delivering warnings that few are heeding and the end  of many will be shipwreck. However, those who listen and follow the Biblical instructions of how to prepare will be saved.

Romans 10:9 Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Amplified Version).

Romans 10:10: For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Romans 10:13: For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (KJV)

Acts 27:21: But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, you should have listened to me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and lost [he reminded them they should have listened to him].

Acts 27:22: And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship [he lets them all know they will be safe but the ship will be destroyed].

Acts 27:34: Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not a hair fall from the head of any of you.

The following is Part 2 of the article Confidence and Courage in the Midst of the Storm, written by the 19th century preacher, Charles H. Spurgeon:

Genuine Faith Speaks Out

“Since the Apostle Paul believed God thus truly and really, he was not ashamed to say so.  He said openly to all those around him, “There shall not a hair of your heads perish, for I believe God.”

Now, it is not so easy to thrust out your faith and expose it to rough weathers, and to the hearing of rough men.  Many a man has believed the promise but has not quite liked to say so, for there has been the whisper in his soul, “Suppose it should not come true, then how the enemy will rejoice!  How those that listened to me will be saddened when they find that I was mistaken.”  Thus does the devil cause faith to be dumb, and God is robbed of His honour.  Under the name of prudence, there lurks an unbelieving selfishness.  Brother, lend me your ear that I may whisper in it – “You do not believe at all.”  That is not the legitimate sort of believing.

Genuine faith in God speaks out and says, “God is true, and I will stake everything on His Word.”  It does not swallow its own words and keep its thoughts to itself; but when the time comes, and others are in difficulty and doubt, it cheers them by crying out, “I believe God.”  It is not ashamed to say, “The Lord Jesus, whose I am and whom I serve, stood by me this night, and spoke with me, and I avow it.”

A Call to Believers

I would to God all Christians were prepared to throw down the gauntlet, and to come out straight; for if God be not true let us not pretend to trust Him, and if the Gospel be a lie let us be honest enough to confess it.  But if it be true, wherefore should we doubt it and speak with bated breath?  If God’s promise be true, why should we distrust it?  What excuse is there for this hesitancy?   “Oh,” says one, “but that might be running great risks.”  Risks with God?  Risks about God keeping His word?  It cannot be.  “...Let God be true, but every man a liar…” (Rom. 3:4).  Let heaven and earth return to chaos, but the Most High cannot break His word or run back from His promise.  Therefore, O ye Pauls, if ye receive a message from the Most High, publish it abroad and let your faith be known.

I should like that little word to drop into the ears of some of you who think you love Christ, but have never told your love – you that are hiding in the background there.  Come out and show yourselves!     As for you who have long avowed your Savior, do it more and more, and “Speak Thy word, though kings should hear, nor yield to sinful shame.”
