MILES FOR MARY

Well I can hardly believe my timing for this subject… Usually it is “out” a day or two, but if things go in the right way, this article will be just in time to let you know that Miles for Mary. The annual fundraiser for the Senior Transportation Program is happening from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Heritage Centre on Friday September 28th and you are all invited!

This program has been put on at the Prince Albert Senior Centre for many years already. I learned that the “Senior” for the year is a real senior who requires the use of the Senior Transportation.

There is no charge. Coffee and tea and cream and sugar are donated by Tim Hortons. Donuts and muffins and desserts are donated by Safeway. Also involved are CKBI radio station and City officials.

This year’s “Mary” is 101 year old Frances Jordan! Six former “Marys” will also be in attendance.

It will be a very busy day for the Senior Centre, as there is also a Pot Luck Supper for members later in the day.

How blessed we are in this city to have all this activity for the benefit of our seniors! The Senior Centre can use all the help they can get to keep this valuable program going. There is no need whatever for a senior to sit at home alone twiddling their thumbs when they could be playing cards, or helping out, or getting acquainted with new friends. Our coffee friends meet there every Friday morning “in support of the cause” and as members, enjoy a 50 cent coffee and raisin toast for $1.00. The cost of a membership is $10 a year per senior. With all of the activities that happen in this Centre, that is a very worthwhile investment in meeting friends and having fun!

As for us, it is soon time to head west and look after some family and visit friends in Kelowna, and stop in to visit our daughter and her family in Gray Creek. It should be a lovely time of year to enjoy the Kootenays, and surely Kelowna‘s weather will be a lot warmer than here!

As I write this, I am thinking of my dear friend and her family who are out at Candle Lake at their cabin – no doubt the wood stove in the cabin is being stoked up for the night and the wood is being piled high on the campfire in the yard to keep warm – the second last weekend in September and it is h
