END OF ANOTHER MONTH! TAKING CARE OF FAMILY BUSINESS…

Not only another month, but before we know it, another year!!! Thankfully we had a bit of a reprieve in the weather, but possibly by the time this gets printed, there could be snow on the ground again. I think we have everything under control in our yard. We haven’t put up actual Christmas lights for a couple of years now but have enjoyed our LED laser lights. They are a LOT less work!

My sister, Thelma, celebrated her 64th birthday in October. My brother and cousins Ken and Jackie took her out to Spy Hill for a special birthday dinner. We were very thankful that they and my brother were there to make the day special for her.

We decided that it was time to go to Langenburg for a visit. We enjoyed spending a couple of days with Ken and Jackie and they are always happy for the visits. Jackie is still dealing with much grief back home in Tennessee, where her sister recently passed away (and Jackie was unable to go home because of health issues) and the sister’s long estranged husband showed up to claim what he believed is his rightful inheritance – namely a share of the family land holdings. Being so far away from “home” is unbearable for her at this time, but her health simply doesn’t allow her to travel down there to straighten things out. She has no strength to do anything – thankfully her husband has pulled up his socks and become an excellent “haus frau”. He actually is a pretty good cook! I was happy to be able to help out a bit by folding or hanging up a huge pile of laundry which was on the spare bed. And I was counting my blessings to be able to help them out with this small chore…

I was aware that my sister had an upcoming doctor’s appointment and was determined to go along to see why he was not doing anything to deal with her legs, which have been infected and inflamed from the knee down for many months already. Turns out she had made many appointments to have them looked at, but was unable to get there for various reasons. She was not in the doctor’s office for very long before she came out with a requisition to be at the Yorkton Hospital on September 1st to be admitted for two weeks! Thankfully my brother is able to take her. We had commitments at home so came back, and if the news is bad as it could be, I will probably go back and hopefully be able to be of some support. In any case, we are glad she is being looked after, and pray for a favorable outcome. I know she can use all the prayers she can get to help her through this. And I am praying an extra prayer that she can find the strength to kick her smoking habit as well, as this would be the time to do it! She is on a disability income and her cheque does not last for the whole month. Having the money she uses for cigarettes for groceries and bills would make a big difference in her lifestyle! But then – what would this non-smoker know about it…. We can preach all we want…

We arrived home just in time to hand out Hallowe’en goodies and our little dog is the best “greeter” ever! He gets so excited and lets us know when each of the trick or treaters arrives at the door!
