GLAD TO BE BACK HOME!

The big news of the week was about the two troublemakers (for lack of a better word) who murdered a couple up north and then another man as well. Sure makes us wonder what this world is coming to!! We had not heard anything further about them being found, but recently the news was released that their bodies had been found in the Gillam area! ! What a relief to those in that area, knowing what the two were capable of…

As we knew we would be spending a lot of time at the hospital in Kelowna, we decided to leave our little dog at home with the daughter. Sure did miss the little guy!!

When we first got to Kelowna, things did not look very good for George – he did not appear to be responding very well. However, over our last few days there, he tried more to communicate and looked brighter and more responsive, although he cannot speak. He managed to convey to us his appreciation that John was standing by and that was definitely worth the trip! The day we left, we were advised that George was being moved back to the Care Home where he had been residing before going into the hospital. That was good news! However, Mary has kept in close touch with us and he is not doing well. I am sure by this time that he would rather join those of his family in heaven and be done with this cruel world!

Mary offered to take us to the “Asian Pear Buffet” for lunch one day. We thought it might be similar to the Golden Corral Smorg we used to attend in Texas, but not even close! The venue was similar, but the food was not. Probably a good thing, because we always over-ate at the Golden Corral in the States when we were with MDS.

Our cousin, Ed, came over for a visit when I called him to let him know we were there. He told us that he has deer walking around in his yard. To keep them out of his yard, he planted sunflowers, and in between the sunflowers, he planted tomatoes. The tomato plants are growing up the sunflower stocks, creating a barrier which the deer cannot get through, so they can’t get into his garden any more. Pretty ingenious!

Soon we had to make the journey home again, on the curves and switch backs with cliffs above and below the highway. I was extremely happy when John found a place to pull over and let the “antsy” traffic go by. Not called “fun” in my world!

Of course, there is no radio reception in the mountains, and I had left the CDs that I had chosen to take along – at HOME! Driving with music is half the enjoyment of travelling! We did not see any wildlife on the pass.

Well, now I have something else to rant about… we were on our way home and John stopped at a convenience store along the highway to get us a couple of drinks on the way to Nakusp. I am a Pepsi lover so he got me a Pepsi. I took one drink and it was HORRIBLE! A second look indicated it was “Pepsi with a splash of juice”. It was so terrible that it should be outlawed in the same cooler as regular Pepsi!
