Cheap trips for Seniors with STC is a great way to do some travelling! My friend and I took the opportunity last week to spend a few days with my sister while the trips were $12.00 (which we understand has been extended to the full month of June as well). She really appreciated the visit and we enjoyed the little getaway! We made some more memories when catching the bus back home and getting caught in a mini flash flood. Didn’t even realize rain clouds were forming as we were working on a jigsaw puzzle to pass the time, and when we went out the door to catch the 5 p.m. bus, the sky was dark as midnight! By the time we got to the bus depot, the rain was coming down in sheets. Sister drove up to the door of the bus depot and I grabbed a couple of my bags heading for the depot door. There was 4 inches of water in front of the door, and a torrent of water coming down from the roof like Niagara Falls. Twyla put her hood up, so her head didn’t get wet as she ran in, but the back of her jacket was drenched. I had two more bags to bring in so had to brave the elements again. By the time I got back into the depot, I was soaked from head to toe – I said I felt like a dog needing to shake the water off my head!! The waiting room of the bus depot was full of waiting passengers, many of whom had been there since before the rain started. I believe we were their entertainment at that point…they sure got a good laugh, and we were both laughing our fool heads off!! Thankfully I had another warm shirt to put on but my jeans were wet almost the whole way home. The bus driver kindly put the heat on when we complained we were cold. In Yorkton in front of the SuperStore corner, the city workers were knee deep in water trying to clear the drains, it was that bad.
One of my “missions” on this trip was to get my sister in touch with someone from the Seniors Centre there. She has become a sort of hermit and that is never good for a human being. They had a very nice man answer the phone there and he advised that at this time of year they mainly just have Friday night dances, and no cards or coffee. Apparently many of the seniors have those amenities at the condos they live in, so there is no need for them to continue at the Senior Centre. At least that is the impression that was given to me. She probably could go to the Centre to listen to the music, but it is doubtful she would be able to dance. He even offered to have someone come and bring her if she wished to come some Friday night. That was very promising, but remains to be seen if it will happen. At least I have planted the seeds…
While we ladies were taking advantage of STC’s super senior offer, my husband decided he would do the same, as there was a truck in Regina that he was interested in on Kijiji, He could go and check it out and if it was not suitable, it would only cost him $12 to return to P.A. The lady who owned it picked him up at the Bus Depot in Regina, they made a deal and he drove it home. Thank you STC! It is a very nice truck. In the meantime, he spoke to just the RIGHT person about the problem he had been having with his old (1996) favorite “garbage truck” necessitating finding the new one, and it was a $20 fix. So then he had to decide which truck to keep. Decisions, decisions. Much as he loved his old 5 speed standard, it seemed the wiser thing to do would be to keep the newer one (2004 Dodge Dakota) despite the automatic transmission. This one meets “the wife’s” approval as it is a lower truck and not a big honking one!!!
Brother George in Kelowna is celebrating his 80th birthday today. We understand that he was going home for a bit of a gathering of friends, the first time he has been home since he ended up in hospital with his stroke on December 15, 2013. We are very happy for him and thankful for the positive news that he is recovering some feeling on his left side. This leads to hope for at least a partial recovery, which we have been praying for.
It appears that my two HEN AND CHICKS plants did not survive this past winter. Is there anyone out there who would like to trade a couple of Hen and Chicks plants for a Silver Mound plant???
