FOOTBALL SEASON OVER FOR ROUGHRIDERS/ U.S. THANKSGIVING

Sure was a hard one to see the Saskatchewan Roughriders lose to Winnipeg – but then – someone has to win and someone has to lose! They gave them a good run for their money anyway… My next choice was Calgary – glad to see they won and they get to play against the RedBlacks on November 25th! We can recall the days when these two much younger people lived in Calgary (that’s where we met) – half of Saskatchewan had moved west and there were more Roughrider fans in the stadium than there were Calgary fans at that time! That is also where I got “cured” of attending live games. Just about everyone had a beer in their hand and when the game got really exiting, everyone stood up and cheered and the beer went flying. That was not in my comfort zone to get a beer bath and have to sit there for the rest of the game. I haven’t been to a live football game since… That’s what you call “another trip down memory lane”…

END OF ANOTHER MONTH! TAKING CARE OF FAMILY BUSINESS…

Not only another month, but before we know it, another year!!! Thankfully we had a bit of a reprieve in the weather, but possibly by the time this gets printed, there could be snow on the ground again. I think we have everything under control in our yard. We haven’t put up actual Christmas lights for a couple of years now but have enjoyed our LED laser lights. They are a LOT less work!

GOOD TO BE BACK HOME

We got home to learn of the flooding in Texas in the Marble Falls area where we volunteered for several years and have many friends there. The pictures on Facebook were of waterways overflowing, cars and houses floating down the river and the water under bridge in Marble Falls nearly flooding the main bridge as well. The main street of Llano where we used to go to the flea market on the weekends was covered in water. It’s a very good thing that the Camp of the Hills main buildings are on high ground – it is certain that the land below the hill where the Dining hall and Offices are located is covered in water! Mother Nature sure can be nasty! We are thankful that our elderly friends’ house is on high ground, and our friend Georgie Porgie (so we call him)’s home is up on the top of the mountain behind their place!

CROWS ARE NOT DUMB! ENJOYING VISITING WITH GEORGE…

Our morning entertainment in Kelowna was looking out of sister-in-law Mary’s large front dining room window watching the crows as we had our breakfast! A “murder” (that’s what Mr. Google says a BUNCH of crows are called) were feasting on Mary’s walnuts on her lawn. We obtained quite an education watching them. They pick up a walnut, but then have to figure out how the heck to open them! They obviously have this down “pat”. We watched one crow in the middle of the road, waiting for a car to come and drive over the walnut that he has his eye on. Missed. So then the crow would fly up to the power line with the nut in its mouth, beside all the other crows lined up up there. He would then proceed to very methodically drop the nut onto the ground. It still did not open. The crow then picked the nut up off the middle of the road and flew up to the power line again. He then dropped it where it could see the next car would drive over it. Voila – it was finally cracked and he picked it up and ate it. It then proceeded to do it all over again! What determination! Plus there were other crows around waiting for their nuts too. It appeared that they do not try to impose on the other’s attempts to retrieve the walnut meat, but there are plenty to go around, so they go and get their own nut and use their own techniques to get them cracked. VERY INTERESTING! Better than television…

THANKSGIVING IN GRAY CREEK/HUNTING SEASON

We surely did have a lovely Thanksgiving, even though some of the family members were not able to come home. Granddaughter Chelsea and her husband took advantage of hunting season at their favorite spot just out of Calgary, and bagged a large MOOSE! As we were travelling to Kelowna, they were coming to Gray Creek to help Dad cut up the elk and deer he had bagged, and then Dad will be heading to Calgary to assist them in processing their huge moose! No doubt there will be some meat swapping so each has some of all of the meat. We really were not aware that we are a part of the “Moose Dynasty”… But they love to hunt and their freezers are always full!
