Our Journey Helping Those In Need Throughout North America

John & Linda Braun

CELEBRATING A MILESTONE

Where have the years gone???  It has been 50 years on March 15th since I first met John in Calgary!  As the saying goes:  “How did we get this darn old this darn quick???”  My younger sister and I were living together in an apartment in Calgary and went to a party with a group of friends from a nearby apartment.  There were a lot of people there and John and I were sitting under a table getting acquainted while his roommate, Bob, and my sister, Joyce, were happy to mingle.   The guys wanted to go to the White Spot before taking us home, but I asked to go home instead.  My sister, on the other hand, decided to go with them.  When she got home, she told me:  “You won’t like that guy – he eats his steak RAW!”

WE'LL GET THIS RIGHT YET…

Well, our neighbours on all sides are enjoying their snow machines in this lovely weather.  One last kick at the cat while the snow is here, I guess…  We recall the days when our kids were younger and my sister and her husband and family lived across the highway in Green Acres.  In summer it was quads, and in winter it was snow machines.  Long gone are the days for us…  There have been many changes since then.  Joyce passed away with cancer 13 years ago this August.  How can it be that long already???  Her boys and their families all live in Albert now.  We are thankful to have our children and grandchildren living here in Prince Albert.

FIRST DAY OF SPRING COMING MARCH 20, 2018

This has been the weirdest winter I can remember!  Here it is, the second week of March, and we still have a ton of snow in our yard!  We have shovelled out a pathway for the dog to go out the back door and can’t even see him, the snow is so deep!  Lots of shovelling to do.  Thankfully our neighbour comes over with his little John Deere tractor to clear the driveway and the back alley behind our garage, but we have the sidewalk and paths in the back yard to do by hand.  John brought out our daughter’s little electric snow thrower for part of it.  With his recent stent installed, he has to take a rest from shovelling for a while and then continue.  I did my share on the other side of the house where the dog run is.  Still have the deck to do…   It is hard to believe that spring will be here in just over a week!

COMINGS AND GOINGS…

While John was in the hospital in January, he became acquainted with a gentleman from Meath Park who was in the next bed and who also had 4 stents put in.   The two new friends were trying to arrange to get together for a visit after returning home, however, he cannot drive yet and his wife doesn’t drive, and we have not ventured up to Meath Park to visit them there.  We are hoping to get together soon, as it would be a shame to lose contact.  We seem to be busy busy busy doing nothing important for the most part…  John seems to be healing quite well, but still has a burning sensation at the top of his thigh and he is looking forward to being rid of that as quickly as possible!

DISHWASHER AND WASHING MACHINES BLUES…

Every time I do a load of dishes in my dishwasher (which is old as the hills), I am so thankful to our daughter-in-law, Jeanie, who turned me on to using a teaspoon of citric acid in the extra tray for the rinse.  It not only leaves the dishes squeaky clean, but it also leaves the dishwasher, SPOTLESS, eliminating the need to EVER scrub the inside of the dishwasher.  Best helpful hint I ever received!!   Our water softener has not been operational for 15 years or more and we use water from our well for all our water needs.  What a blessing!
