Through Rose Coloured Glasses
Valentine’s Day is always bittersweet for me. When I think of Valentine’s day, I think of flowers, candies and expressions of love, however February 14th was also my Dad’s birthday. He has been gone now for over twenty years, yet the void is ever present on his special day.
The Prince Albert Council of Women has put out its annual call for nominations for the Women’s Hall of Fame. Each year, a local woman is recognized and inducted into the Hall of Fame. The first inductee was acknowledged in this manner in 2004 and there has been an induction each year since.
Each year the person selected for the Prince Albert Citizen of the Year is most deserving of the recognition. However, this year, the Kinsmen Club and the Prince Albert Daily Herald really got it right! There could not have been a better choice than Jeanette Eddolls.
It is difficult to believe that 2014 is over! The year went by so fast - did we really have live through four seasons already? As much as I love Christmas, once it is over I am anxious to have things return to normal. Our tree is down and all the ornaments and decorations are packed and put away before New Year`s Day. It seems that once Christmas day is over, the things that were so beautiful the day before are now in the way and cluttering up the house. I carefully place each treasured ornament and decoration in its storage container, knowing I will enjoy them all over again next Christmas. Perhaps it is because New Year`s Day is all about a fresh start, new hopes and plans for the incoming year, that I feel the need to clear the house of Christmas reminders. Somehow it seems you shouldn`t start the new year by putting away last year`s decorations. Maybe by doing this, it feels like two separate special holidays. By the time our household rings in the new year, all evidence of Christmas is gone.
Christmas is my favourite time of year. There is excitement in the air and goodwill. I savour everything the season brings: the hustle and bustle of finding that perfect present, gift wrapping, decorating the house, trimming the tree and baking. My favourite part of the holiday season is spending time with friends and family. Celebrating with the people I love has always made any holiday special, but is even more special at Christmas.
