I recently came across the story of Florence “Seesee” Rigney, an registered nurse in Washington state who really loves her job. In fact, she loves it so much, that she has been nursing for seventy years! Yes,Seessee turned 91 this year and she is still a working nurse. It is believed that she is the oldest working nurse in world.

SCHOOL TIME

Well, it’s that time of year again. All the signs are there: the days are getting shorter, the night air is crisper and plants and leaves are starting to change. It’s the end of summer and this week, the beginning of a new school year. Even after all these years of being away from school, I still get butterflies in my stomach thinking about that first day back at school.

NO ONE HAS EVER BECOME POOR BY GIVING

“No one has ever become poor by giving.” This quote from Anne Frank reminds us that giving to others is really a gift to ourselves. It’s important to remember this, not only at the giving times of year such as Christmas or birthdays, but throughout the year. It’s also important to give to people you may not even know, not only to family and friends. Giving to people, especially to people you don’t know, makes one feel good. Saskatoon’s own Betty-Ann Heggie, a member of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women Hall of Fame, says that giving gifts to worthy causes and people, “make me feel good because I am doing good”.

SASKATCHEWAN DAY 2017

In a previous column, I talked about my Saskatchewan bucket list and how I was planning on crossing off several items this summer. The Saskatchewan Day long week-end is the perfect time to reflect on the beauty and uniqueness of our province. We often enjoy that extra day off at the beginning of August without really thinking about what it means to live in Saskatchewan and how fortunate we are to do so. This summer, with the focus on my bucket list, I am learning to appreciate Saskatchewan even more than I did before.
