Louise Olive Elliott

September 29, 941 ~ November 6, 2020

Louise Olive Elliott (nee Rapin) of Christopher Lake, Saskatchewan passed away at the Royal University Hospital in the early morning hours of November 6, 2020 at the age of 79 with her family by her side.

Louise was born in the Red Cross Hospital in Paddockwood on September 29, 1941 the fourth of six children of Albert and Florence Rapin.  Louise grew up and attended school in Albertville.  She met the love of her life Stewart when he was operating the road grader for the RM of Buckland in the Albertville area.  Louise’s family ran the General Store and Post Office in the village and Stewart was able to corner her in the Post Office and ask her for a date, with no intention of accepting no for an answer!   That first date took place one day before her 18th birthday, a little over one year later they were engaged on her 19th birthday.   They were married on July 6, 1961 at St James Parish, going on to have a family of four boys.  Mom’s wish to have daughters was fulfilled as the boys each married.

Louise was a stay at home Mom when the family was young with many moves to different areas while Stewart was working in the bush.  Mom always bragged that even though she once had three boys under the age of 30 months she never had two children wearing diapers at the same time!  When the oldest was of school age, they finally settled down. They lived at Paddockwood and then moved to the Rapin Family farm near Albertville; from there they moved south-west of Prince Albert.  During their time here Louise began working in retail at the Co-op first in the cafeteria and then as a cashier.  She also worked at Foodland in the post office, finishing her working career with 18 plus years at Sears, retiring in 2006.  Along the way, she obtained her GED to complete her formal education.  During this time, Louise was involved with the Prince Albert Exhibition Association as a Director and was one of the organizers of the first Focus on Women tradeshow.  Louise was also very passionate about genealogy.  As a member of the Prince Albert Genealogy Society, she spent a great deal of time tracing both the Elliott and Rapin family trees back for hundreds of years. They moved to Spruce Home in 2001 where they stayed until 2017 when they moved to senior housing in Christopher Lake.  After her retirement, Louise became involved in the Spruce Home Seniors Club where she enjoyed organizing events and trips and being part of the executive for many years.

Over the years, they enjoyed many traveling adventures across Canada from coast to coast.  There were also travels to all the Northern states, as well as Arizona, Nevada, and California, with a short excursion into Mexico.  They really enjoyed their first trip through the Yukon and North West Territories to Alaska, so much so they made another 5 years later.  In 2008, they travelled to England to visit Ed’s family who were working there at the time, with a side trip to Scotland to visit Elliott castle and the childhood home of her mother-in-law.

Louise is survived by her husband of 59 years, Stewart; her sons, Norman (Karen), Don (Donna), Ed (Cecile) and Greg (Cheryl); her grandchildren, Meagan (Blake) Weiseth, Spencer (Melissa), Brittany, Connor (Cheyenne), Shelby (Dustin) Rouault, Karsten (Nicole), Bryanne and Tahirih; her great-grandchildren, Molly, Jasper, Hunter and Piper Weiseth, Sophia Elliott, Oliver Rouault and Adalie Elliott; her siblings, Therese Courchesne, George (Denise) Rapin, Amelia Benoit, Joe (Janet) Rapin, Yvonne (Leonard) Nakonechny; and her in-laws, Allan Elliott (Noreen Baker) and Edith Elliott.  She was predeceased by her parents Albert and Florence Rapin, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Burton and Effie Elliott; her in-laws, Roland Courchesne, Leo Benoit, Orlin (Shirley) Elliott, Charlie (Betty) Elliott, Bruce (Lorna) Elliott, Helen Elliott, Margaret (Les) Zeorb, and Morris Elliott.

A private service and internment will be held at a later date.

The Family wishes to thank everyone involved in Mom’s health care journey over the last few years especially Dr Elmer, the staff at the Victoria Hospital and Royal University Hospital for their dedicated care. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, (306) 922-4729.
