Phillip Louis Stenne

January 22, 1930~ April 14, 2021

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Philippe Louis Stenne, or as he was known as by his wife, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, simply Papa.




Papa was born on January 22, 1930 in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France and in the early 50s came to Canada to help build a church in Camsell Portage, SK.  While there he met and fell in love with Mary Powder, they married on September 26, 1956 and were blessed with 6 children.




After the church was built, he had various jobs; commercial fishing on Lake Athabasca, taking care of the airport for Sask Highways and the power meters for Sask Power.  A few times he was also Mayor.




In his spare time, he was an avid wood worker and could be found in his shop down by the lake.  He also enjoyed gardening, playing chess and watching tennis.




He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary Stenne (nee Powder); daughter Claire (Dennis); sons: Peter (Celina), John and Patrick (Mary-Jayne); daughter-in-law Joyce Stenne; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. 




He was predeceased by his sons, Gabriel and Jack.




Wake Service will be held on Thursday, April 15 and Friday, April 16, 2021. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.  Both Services will be held at St. Bernard Mission Roman Catholic Church, Camsell Portage, SK.  Interment will be held at the Camsell Portage Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to the family at  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, (306) 922-4729.
